DCRC is Paying Attention - Weeks 23 & 24 (Ending 13082010)
As the Great British summer kicks in and the rain starts to fall, many of the Research Centre staff have opted for sunnier climes. We are, again, blogging a fortnight note, rather than a weeknote, so this post represents a review of the last two weeks (between: 02.08.2010-13.08.2010).
During the week ending 06.08.2010 research centre staff were busy finalising the programme of events for the coming academic year, more information on these events will be posated in due course. The website for our ESF sponsored conference Paying Attention has launched and the full programme is accessible there. A number of digital 'posters' have also been submitted for the conference which are available to view on the conference website. These include:
- Internet and political transformation in Turkey - Imren Borsuk
- Brazil Digital Futures - Regina Cunha
- Architect, Virtual World Native - Bjarke Liboriussen and Ursula Plesner
- How social metadata expands the attention economy: new media and gifting - J. Skågeby
- Hardware hacking in the Czech Wireless Community: User innovation, entrepreneurship and politics - J. Söderberg
We encourage you to take a look, and please feel free to join in the discussion using the comments facilities.
DCRC took part in the regular Pervasive Media Studio Friday lunchtime talk, which was given by Masters student Anna Searle, who spoke about 'Agency and action in networked public spaces'. We look forward to seeing more of Anna's work in the near future.
Finally, DCRC were excited by the news that author William Gibson, purportedly the inventor of the term 'cyberspace', is coming to speak at the Watershed Media Centre in October. We look forward to an interesting discussion.
During the week ending 13.08.2010 DCRC staff have received coverage in the UK national press. Helen Kennedy was quoted as an expert source for a BBC News article about women in video games. Dan Dixon featured in the Stephen Fry, BBC Radio 4, programme 'Fry's English Delight' and in an accompanying BBC News article. Also, alongside our web developers, ThoughtDen, we are putting the finishing touches to a slightly revamped version of this website. This will allow us to aggregate more content from the various websites related to DCRC projects and researchers, which will allow this website to better represent the network of researchers, projects and partners for which DCRC forms the hub.
