Roaming narrative (weekending 11112011)

Although this weeknote concerns last week, we want to highlight that the DCRC and Knowle West Media Centre will be discussing our Keeping in Touch project this Friday - places are still available. You can read a related discussion document in our publications section.

DCRC researchers took their research abroad last week and that is set to continue this week. DCRC research was presented in Canada, conducted in Belgium and will be presented in Paris this week. We have also seen some good responses to Constance Fleuriot's participation in the Storyworld conference at the beginning of the month. Closer to home, the REACT hub continues to take shape and we are looking forward to sharing more on that soon. DCRC Director Jonathan Dovey has been driving REACT forward as well as participating in a grant application interview with the AHRC. Again, we hope to share more on that soon.

Last week Patrick Crogan took part in the prestigious Impact of technology on the historiography and theory of film conference, held by University of Monteral and Concordia University, which took place in Montreal. Patrick brought to bear his considerable expertise in the work of Bernard Stiegler in his paper 'Experience of the edit', which concerned Stiegler's film theory as a thinking of film as experience generator.

Over the weekend that capped off the week concerned, Tom Abba was ensconced in Ghent, writing with our former colleague and PM Studio resident, Duncan Speakman. Tom and Duncan have been exploring platforms, materiality and sound. The project was finished in a weekend and is the first of a series of collaborations that will be published as a physical collection (possibly book like) of experiences that people can undertake on their own.

"The Are You Happy?" Project, a substantial part of Mandy Rose's Collab Docs work, is included as work-in-progress in Narrativite Singulieres, a programme taking place this week in the Cinema Ethnographique Festival International Jean Rouch in Paris.
