Tom Livingstone is a Research Fellow in the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education at UWE Bristol. His research focusses on evolving screen aesthetics and screen-mediated experiences and investigates their impact on everyday life. Tom has published peer-reviewed journal articles on topics such as colourisation in documentary, and time-ramping in action cinema and has chapters featuring in edited collections on Jurassic Park and The X-Files. He is currently working on his first monograph, called “Franchise Aesthetics: Hybrid Images in Capital Intensive Cinema.”
Prior to his work in academia Tom had a range of roles within the creative industries: as a jobbing AD on films such as Jane Campion’s Bright Star and as a writer for children’s television, developing and writing episodes of shows such as PJ Masks, Topsy and Tim and Mike the Knight.
Tom’s current research is part of the UKRI Strength in Places My World Programme, a £36 million screen-based media R&D programme led by University of Bristol. His focus is within the Experimental Productions strand of the project where he will be investigating the future trajectories of moving image production across a range of media formats.
