Dr Steve Presence is a Research Fellow in Film and Television Studies at UWE. His research interests include political film culture, documentary film, and the British film and television industries. Steve is co-founder of the Bristol Radical Film Festival and convenor of the Radical Film Network (RFN), and is currently Principal Investigator on three research projects: ‘Sustaining Alternative Film Cultures’ (2015-18), an AHRC-funded International Networking Scheme project run in association with the RFN; ‘Documentary UK’ (2017-2010), an examination of the feature-length documentary film industry in the UK, also funded by the AHRC; and ‘Understanding Watershed’ (2017-18), a study of Bristol’s flagship independent cinema which is funded by an Early Career Research award at UWE.
Steve teaches on the Film Studies BA and the Contemporary Film Cultures MA.
